Just some of the survivors

Last year, residents of several south Leicestershire villages came together for the second Cancer Research Relay for Life Kibworth event.

23 teams of all ages congregated at Kibworth & Smeeton Football Club to celebrate 6 months worth of fund raising. This fund raising ranged from car washing to car booting and from duck racing to wing walking!

The event was opened by Scott Hamilton and Ben Herring from the Leicester Tigers and we also had a surprise visit in what we thought was going to be a brief appearance from Michael Wood and his team which lasted the whole week-end resulting in the Relay featuring in his six part documentary.

Ultimately in excess of £70,000 was raised for Cancer Research and over 500 people attended the weekend which involves all team members camping at our venue with a 24 hour relay walk. It is estimated that by the end of the event each team had covered approximately 66 miles each by walking the 400 metre track for the 24 hours.

This year’s event will take place over the 7th and 8th July 2012 and we would like to invite anyone along to the launch who would like to learn more about heading up a team or even just be involved in this years event.

Our launch this year will be held at Raitha’s Indian Restaurant on Leicester Road, Kibworth and will take place on Wednesday 14th December at 7.30pm.

If you can’t make the launch then please contact a committee member and we will advise on how to get involved.
