What is an RSS feed?

Maybe the best way to consider an RSS feed is to consider it as a Live Book-mark in your browser. Once you subscribe to an RSS feed, the feed lists the latest changes to a website, so you can quickly and easily see what is new. You can mark topics as read, so that only new or changed topics are highlighted. You no longer need to visit the site, you get a straightforward list of all of the changes in one place. Of course if you are bored of the site then you simply remove the feed in the same way you would have deleted an actual book-mark in your browser.

From our point of view it means we do not have to maintain an e-mail subscription (with all the data protection issues that entails), we simply maintain one up-to-date list of topics. From your point of view you do not get an inbox filled with unwanted e-mails, whilst you can quickly check to see what is happening whenever you wish. You have not released any of your details, and you are free to subscribe and delete your subscription whenever you wish.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome does not have an RSS reader built in so one must be added. You will need to add a feed finder and a feed reader. There are numerous available, although some require you to have a Google account and to be signed in to function fully. The Slick RSS: Feed Finder and Slick RSS: Feed Reader can both easily be added by following the links and adding to Chrome.
